Toyota is known the world over as the premier automaker when you want versatile, rugged and affordable vehicles. The 2017 Toyota Tundra, 2017 Toyota Tacoma and 2016 Toyota 4Runner are all further proof that Toyota is the brand for vehicles that can handle tons of freight and also go off-road. In fact, while we're not specifically talking about the TRD-only models here, these are the three vehicles that comprise Toyota's TRD Off-Road series, with special vehicles made for grimy, splashy mudding as well as dry, sandy desert driving - and everything in between. So sit back and buckle up, because these vehicles will take you places you didn't know were possible.
If you want a crossover with the ability to hold up to 88.8 cubic feet of cargo and still churn out 270 HP whole holding the largest number of passengers of this trio, with space for up to seven depending on the trim option, then the 2016 Toyota 4Runner is your vehicle. If you run a tow service or want to be able to handle snow-capped mountains as easily as you can haul landscaping equipment and supplies, then the 2017 Tundra and the 2017 Tacoma are more your style. We'll break down their differences and the benefits of each.

The 2017 Toyota Tundra is a full-size pickup that can tow more at 10,500 pounds, topping the 2017 Tacoma's 6,400-pound towing capacity. It also has enormous power, with an available 5.7-liter V8 engine that churns out 381 HP. However, as a midsize truck, the 2017 Tacoma has a lighter body and gets better fuel economy with a peak of 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway and still can tow up to 6,400 pounds, or in excess of three tons. Both of these trucks can handle heavy loads and off-road driving, and if you prefer better fuel economy but a reduction in towing power to 5,000 pounds, then the 2016 4Runner is always ready to crush the road into dust.
Take your pick: The 2017 Tundra has the sheer power and towing ability, the 2017 Tacoma has the versatility and handling, and the 2016 4Runner has the cargo room and fuel economy. All three are rugged vehicles that hold their resale value long after the competition does, as evidenced by them sweeping their categories in the KBB.com Best Resale Value awards for the 2016 model year.
