This year the Super Bowl turned 50, and so does the combined fuel economy for the Toyota Prius. The 2016 edition of the best-selling hybrid gets a fuel economy of 54 mpg city, 50 mpg highway, which will save you a bucketful of money – or likely more – over the lifetime of the car.

During the Feb. 7, 2016 broadcast of the big game, the 2016 Prius was shown off to millions of viewers in a couple minute-long commercials, some of whom know the compact hybrid is good for the environment and your wallet, some who heard about the Prius for the first time. Prius Ad Puts the “Super” in Super Bowl Sunday

Since the Super Bowl is 50, and the Prius’ fuel economy has surpassed that, it got us thinking about other great “50s.” A few that come to mind are retired linebacker Mike Singletary, who wore the jersey number 50, and actors Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey, Jr., who both turned 50 in 2015. What do they all have in common? They’re icons and game-changers, and so is the 2016 Prius.

The 2016 Prius is newly-available on dealership lots, and two commercials that aired on Super Bowl Sunday were perfectly-timed to show all interested car shoppers how fun and feature-filled it is. Here’s one of the Super Bowl ads:
